Electronics and communication department has a distinct relevance in the realm of today's technology. The department, started in the year 1980 with an intake of 60 students, boasts of well equipped laboratories, dedicated, qualified and well experienced faculty and staff. The intake of UG programme has been increased to 120 from the academic year 2012-13. The department housed in spacious premises has state-of-the-art classrooms and laboratories in Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Advanced Communication, DSP & VLSI, Microprocessors & Microcontrollers and well equipped department Computer Centre. An interesting facility of this Department is the Amateur Radio and hobby Club that lets students to learn HAM using YEASU HAMs set.

The department has started the PG programme, M.Tech in Digital Electronics & Communication Systems from the academic year 2011-12 with an intake of 18 students, which has been enhanced to 24 from the academic year 2013-14.

The department strives hard for the all round development of students. In the academic front the performance of the students is excellent. Every year more than 90% of the eligible students are placed in reputed companies like TCS, HCL, WIPRO, Robert Bosch etc. Under the banner of the department association “SPECTRUM” and IETE Students Forum (ISF) a number if technical activities are conducted throughout the year and also publishes the department news letter “SAIL”. It is matter of pride that ISF at JNNCE is one of the active ISFs throughout the country.

The faculty members have been publishing papers in national and international conferences / journals. The department has expertise in the areas of Online Character Recognition, Cryptography & Network Security, Wireless Sensor Networks and Image Processing. E & C department has been recognized as research centre by VTU for pursuing Ph.D and M.Sc (Engg) under which three students number of students are pursuing their research. The Department organizes regularly Faculty Development Programmes that benefit a most of surrounding engineering colleges while orienting them to the latest technologies. Recent activities in this direction are: Icon RFW -13 –IETE National Conference on RF & Wireless during May 2013 and MPCIT 2013 - International Conference in Multimedia Processing and Information technology during December, 2013. The Department is organizing a National Workshop on Cryptology – NWC2016 during August 2016.
