The department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering in one among the core branches of engineering which is established in the year 1980 in order to cater undergraduate course in engineering with intake is sixty students at present. All the teaching faculties are master’s degree holders with sufficient years of teaching experience. The department has well established laboratories and computational facilities to cater the needs of students. The department has been accredited twice by the NBA and process is on to renew it. Under VTU the department has established post graduate course in Power Electronics (M.Tech) with an intake of eighteen during 2014.

The department undertakes consultancy work for public and private utilities and energy audit for industries. The department in addition to regular academic works conducts technical activities to students, industrial visits for enhancing the knowledge of students and competitions in the core area. The departmental library also caters the needs of students in addition to main library facilities provided by the institution.
Most of the alumni’s are working in reputed industries and establishments. Many of the students have brought laurels to the department at state level competitions. Most of the eligible final year students have got placements in campus recruitments.
The vision of the department is to undertake active role in overall development of the students and to prepare students with quality and technical level as desired by industries in the ever changing world.

Electrical Machines Laboratory

The Electrical Machines Laboratory includes Transformers, Induction Machines, DC Machines and Alternators. Students learn basic machine operation, various tests on machines to determine efficiency and regulation, starting and speed control and parallel operation of some of the electrical equipments used in industries and utilities.

Relay & High Voltage Lab

Relay Laboratory: Relays for detecting faults and abnormal conditions such as over current under/over voltages, reverse power etc. which are primarily employed in power generating / transmission and utilities. Students learn the working of the relays and their settings in order to operate the system in properly coordinated manner.
High voltage Laboratory: Equipments used in generation of high voltage AC/DC voltages employed in power transmission and some testing equipments for testing insulation level of transformer oils, spark over characteristics various electrode configurations.

Power Electronics Lab

Power Electronics Laboratory: Solid state power converter devices such as thyristors, MOSFET and IGBT characteristics and their applications in choppers, converters are studied. Some of the devices which are used in gate triggering are thyristors are also studied.

Analog Electronics Lab

Analog Electronics Laboratory: Amplifiers, Oscillators, Clipping and Clamping circuits are realized using devices such as transistors, FET and diodes. The laboratory includes equipments such a multimeter, CRO, power supplies function generators required for above purpose.

Measurement Lab

Measurement Laboratory: Students get in hand training in measurement of 3-phase power using watt meters, measuring inductance and resistances using AC and DC bridges calibration of single phase energy meters, earth resistance testing. Some of the major equipments are AC & DC bridges, watt meters, megger and measuring instruments such as ammeter and voltmeters.

Research Center

Research Center: Recognized by Viveswaraya Technological University, facilities are provided to register candidates for the degree of M.Sc engineering by research and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering. Eligible candidates are doing research in the area of power quality issues, power system and distribution system optimization. PSCAD, ETAP and MATLAB are some of the software packages available with terminals and a server. Research journals are provided in the main library.
