Recent Activities of the Department Forum (Management Club)
February 2016

  • To ensure that the learning from formal training programmes conducted is carried forward by the students and to help them internalize, adopt and practice the same in their day-to-day campus life, a new module titled ‘Active Campus’ has been launched by the Dept. on 6.2.2016. Under this scheme, various committees of II Sem. students have been formed to carry out specific programmes. The module is being coordinated by Dr. C Srikant & Smt. C K Anuradha. Following events/activities were presented /started by the students under this new & unique module during the month:

  • II Sem. students contributed Rs. 658-00 on 8.2.2016 to one Sri Ashish Kumar Yadav, a deaf & dumb student from St. Paul’s Mission School, Samaur, UP, for his study.
  • II Sem. students contributed Rs. 1,310-00, realized through sale of old newspapers (subscribed by them) to BSR Fund on 10.2.2016.
  • As per the directive received from NES Management, a ‘Swachatha Andolan’ was started by the Dept. on 19.2.2016; students & staff actively participated in the activity; further, as required, every Friday one hour is being earmarked to carry out ‘litter-free’ campus activity.

March 2016

  • II Sem. students contributed Rs. 503-00 on 3.3.2016 towards medical treatment of daughter of a mason from Tarikere. Six students donated blood at the mega Blood Donation Camp organized by the College on 18.3.2016. Students donated (an undisclosed amount) on 18.3.2016 towards a campaign on commemoration of martyred soldiers and assistance to orphan children initiated by ‘Bhagath Singh Balaga’, Shimoga.

April 2016

  • Following events/activities were presented /conducted by the students under “Active Campus” module during the month:

1. Demo of Martial Arts (Kick Boxing & Taekwondo) by students on 1.4.2016
2. Promotional contests organized by Big Bazaar, Shimoga (6 students won I/II prizes in three different events) on 5.4.2016 

  • Class Toppers were felicitated and rewarded with Cash Prizes by the College management during Annual Day celebrations (Janvey-2016) on 23.4.2016. Two students, namely, Ms Meghana R (IV Sem. ) and Mr. Prashanth M (II Sem.) presented Western Dances (Solo) at the Cultural Day celebrations of Janvey-2016 on 23.4.2016 “Upakrama-2016” a two-day Management Fest was held on 27-28 April, with II Year students organizing and managing various contests & events and I year students actively competing in them. The Fest was inaugurated by Sri S V Venkatesh, CEO & MD, Raman International Institute of Information Technology (RIIIT), Mysore on 27.4.2016.


  • Alumni Meet-‘Anubandha’ was celebrated on the forenoon of 1.5.2016; 87 alumni students attended the annual meet.
  • Management Day was held on the afternoon of 1.5.2015.  Sri Chandan Choudary, General Manager, Royal Orchid, Shimoga was the Chief Guest on the occasion.  Secretary of NES Sri H M Mallappa was present on the occasion as Guest-of Honour. Students were awarded prizes and certificates for excelling in curricular and extra-curricular activities. Assistance under Department’s “B-School Social Responsibility” initiative was symbolically presented to the beneficiaries.
  • “Business Plan” presentation by II Sem. students was organized on 3.5.2016; the programme was conducted by Sri B V Srinivasa Murthy.
  • Farewell to Final Year Students: The first year students hosted a very warm and memorable farewell to their seniors on 13.5.2016 and wished them a bright career and life ahead; besides all final year students and the faculty attended the Farewell programme organized by the College on 25.5.2016.


  • 24 students of II Sem. (after their exams/during vacation) conducted a market survey on “Business Potential & Customers’ Feedback”, commissioned by State Bank of Mysore, Regional Office, Shimoga, on 15-16 June, 2016, co-ordinated by Dr. C Srikant & Dr. Santhosh Shanbhag; the students are being given honorarium & appreciation certificates for their work.


  • HR students arranged an introductory session on “Emotional Fitness Gym” by Mr. Shivaprasad Kumaraswamy (our alumni: 2002-04 batch & a certified corporate trainer) on 29.7.2016; all the students attended this unique programme and have evinced interest in pursuing the regime.


  • 24 students of Marketing & HR undertook a 5-day part-time internship at Big Bazaar, Shimoga as part of its “Big Day Celebrations” during 13-17 August, 2016; the activity was facilitated by Dr. C Srikant & Dr. Santhosh Shanbhag.
  • III Sem HR students visited M/s Sharekhan Securities, Shimoga on 26.8.2016 and got enlightened about stock trading as well as firm’s HR practices & policies; the activity was facilitated by Dr. C Srikant.
  • As per the directives of MHRD, GOI, a special commemorative programme – “Yaad karo Kurbani – Independence 70” was arranged under the aegis of Utthana forum on 23.8.2016; as part of this special event, competitions in singing, dance & essay writing (patriotic theme) for students of JNNCE, NES-IAS & DSDN Polytechnic, video exhibition on India’s freedom movement, a talk on role of NES in freedom struggle, and felicitation to a veteran freedom fighter were arranged; Sri K H Srinivas, former Minister and Smt. M V Thusharamani, Commissioner, Shimoga City Corporation were the Guests of Honour.  The programme was co-ordinated by Ms. P S Subhadra, with other faculty members assisting her.


  • Two very enlightening & motivational lectures on ‘Consumer Awareness’ were arranged on 23.9.2016, in association with District Consumer Information Centre, Shimoga.  Dr. Ravindranath Shanbhag, noted consumer activist from Udupi and Sri Basavaprabhu Hosakeri, Senior Advocate & President, District Consumer Information Centre, Dharwad spoke on various issues concerning protection of consumer rights.  The programme was coordinated by Dr. KSH Rahman & Sri B V Srinivasamurthy.
  • Orientation Programme for 1st Sem. was arranged on 7.9.2016. Dr. C Vasudevappa, Vice Chancellor, University of Agricultural & Horticultural Science, Shimoga was the Chief Guest.  NES Executive Committee members were present. Dr. H R Mahadevaswamy, Principal presided over the function. On this occasion, the Jan-June 2016 issue of ‘Prabandhan” –our house journal was released; and meritorious students from amongst fresher’s (with highest PGCET ranks) were felicitated.


  • An introductory talk on “Soft Skills for Management Students” by Mr. Ramani Venkat, M/s Varnaaz Leaders Factory, Bangalore was arranged for I Sem. students on 3.10.2016
  • A 3-day Training by M/s Varnaaz Leaders Factory, Bangalore in “Soft Kills and Pre-Placement Requisites & Preparation” for III Sem. was arranged from 21.10.2016 to 23.10.2016
  • A lecture-cum-demo and Exhibition of two art forms, namely, Garnishing (fruit carving) & soft toys making, by Mr. Harish Kumar & Ms Amrutha respectively was held on 4.10.2016. The programme was coordinated by Ms P S Subhadra, Asst. Prof.


  • A special programme was arranged on 25.11.2016 for observance of Communal Harmony Campaign Week (from 19th to 25th November, 2016) and Flag Day of National Foundation of Communal Harmony; essay writing & elocution competitions, ‘bhavaikyatha’ songs, distribution of Flag Day stamps, etc were conducted. Our Principal Dr. H R Mahadeva Swamy addressed the gathering on the occasion.  Student and staff contributed a sum of Rs. 1,340-00 to Communal Harmony Fund.
  • As part of observance of ‘Vigilance Week’, several faculty members and students applied for and received “Certificate of Commitment” from CVC, on 3.11.2016.
  • The `Constitution Day’ was celebrated on 26th November, 2016 on the occasion of 125th Birth Anniversary  of Dr. B R Ambedkar. In view of the celebration of Constitution Day, a ‘Mass reading’ of the Preamble of the Constitution was organized at 11.00 AM on 25th November, 2016. Principal Dr. H R Mahadeva Swamy was present on the occasion.


  • Training programme on Advanced Excel Training for first year students organized by Dr. Santhosha during 11/02/2017 & 18/02/2017.
  • Training programme on Entreprenural Idea Generation for first year students organized by Dr. KSH Rehaman during 11/02/2017 & 18/02/2017.

March -2017

Successful in getting more than 90% of seats filled up in all these years, with 100% admission in 2015-16.

  1. Highest ever pass percentage (90%) recorded by 2014-15 batch.
  2. Under an MOU with a professional training agency, a minimum of 100-Hours training in soft skills conducted for each batch; More than 50 companies (direct & pool campus) accessed for campus recruitment; About 50% of eligible students placed through campus recruitment, with a highest salary of Rs. 3.60 lakhs (for a 2015-16 batch student).
  3. Three candidates awarded Ph.D. through Dept’s Research Centre; another eight pursuing; the number of Ph.Ds in the Dept. has risen to six as on date. Four faculties have cleared NET/K-SLET during the period.
  4. Six books written & published more than 40 research papers presented in conferences; and 15 research papers published in journals by the faculty.
  5. New initiatives, like Micro-Mentoring, Cross Domain Certification (CDC) Courses, Special English Course, Competency Development Programme (CDP), “Partnering-with-Parents”, Active Campus, etc launched.
  6. About Rs. 1.20 lakh contribution collected from students & staff under “B-School Social Responsibility” (BSR) initiative, and assistance in the form of text books, writing stationery, school bags, uniform, library books, sports kits, furniture, water bottles, fans, etc distributed to local schools, where poor & under privileged children study.
  7. Dr. M G Krishnamurthy has been appointed as Member, BOS in MBA by VTU for a second 3-year term, till 31.3.2016; and also by the VTU as University Nominee on the Board of Studies-MBA of MSRIT, Bangalore (Autonomous) for a two-year period, from 1.5.2015 to 30.4.2017.
  8. Dr. M G Krishnamurthy has been designated as an Editorial Board Member of Asian Journal of Development Matters (an official publication of Rural Organisation for Appropriate Development Trust, Mysore) for the period April 2015 – April 2018.
  9. Dr. K S Habeebur Ur Rahman has been appointed as BOE in MBA by VTU  in the year 2013.
  10. Dr. C. Srikant has been appointed as BOE in MBA by VTU  in the year 2014.
  11. Mr. Praveen Kumar B H Secured 8th Rank in 2016.
  12. Dr. M.G.  Krishnamurthy was honoured for his academic and social accomplishments by Thrimurthy Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association, Shimoga on 1st May, 2016.
  13. Several VIPs (such as Mr. Joachim Blackstein, Senior Project Manager from Germany’s second largest bank “Commerz Bank”, Mr. Justice Nag Mohan Das, Retd. Judge of High Court of Karnataka, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC, Sri D H Shankaramurthy, Hon’ble Chairman, Legislative Council,) besides many international business delegations (Japanese, German & UK) visited the Dept. during the period.
  14. The department has applied for 05 Projects totaling up to Rs 41.5 Lakhs and is waiting for reply from funding agencies
