ELECTRONICS AND COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING


Introduction

Electronics and communication department now has a distinct relevance in the realm of today's technology and was started in the year 1980 with an intake of 60 students. The department also runs one post graduate program, M.Tech in Digital Electronics and Communication Systems which got incepted in the year 2011 with an intake of 18 students. Now the intake for Undergraduate and postgraduate programs has been increased to 120 and 24 in the year 2013. The department has expertise in the areas of Online Character Recognition, Cryptography & Network Security, Wireless Sensor Networks and Image Processing. The Electronics and communication department has been recognized as the research center by VTU for pursuing P.hD and M.Sc Engineering.

  • Train the students and the faculty in state - of - the-art technologies and motivate them for higher studies & innovation based research for the needs of the industry and society.
  • Create centers of excellence in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering in collaboration with the industries and academic organizations.

PEO - 1 To produce graduates with the necessary background and technical skills to work professionally in one or more related areas of Electronics and Communication with commitment to ethical, societal and environmental issues.
PEO - 2 To enable students to analyse and solve Electronics & Communication problems by applying basic principles of Mathematics, Science & Engineering and also able to use modern tools and techniques.
PEO - 3 To enable students to innovate, design and develop hardware and software components.
PEO - 4 To equip students with good communication skills to work as members of a team or leader of a multidisciplinary team.
PEO - 5 To build strong fundamental knowledge amongst students to pursue higher education, to enhance research potential and to continue professional development in Electronics, Communication and IT industries.

PSO - 1 Specify, design, build and test analog, digital and embedded systems for signal processing.
PSO - 2 Understand and architect wired and wireless analog and digital communication systems as per specifications, and determine their performance.

PO - 3 Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
PO - 4 Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
PO - 5 Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

Infrastructure and Facilities

  • Class rooms all equipped with projectors.
  • A well stacked library with around 1500 books and related magazines and journals for reference for both staff and students.
  • Laboratories in Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Advanced Communication, DSP & VLSI, Microprocessors & Microcontrollers.
  • Well equipped department Computer Centre.


Placements

Students are well trained on aptitude, personality development, group discussions and interviews. More emphasis is given on technical skill development. For the year 2016-17, around 90% of the eligible students are being placed in various Core and IT companies.
