NEW AGE INCUBATION NETWORK CENTRE (NAINC)

Department of IT BT, Government of Karnataka has started “New Age Incubation Network” Centre at JNNCE in 2014 to build startup & business ecosystem in and around Shivamogga. Innovative Project proposals will be invited from JNNCE students, Alumni, Research Scholars & the public every year. For Top 10 innovative ideas, there will be a funding of upto Rs. 3.00 Lakhs per Project. Best 43 innovative projects in Batch-1 (2015-16), Batch-2 (2016-17), Batch-3 (2017-18) & Batch-4 (2019-20) have been funded to a maximum of Rs. 3.00 Lakhs per project. NAIN Institution Level Innovation Council has been formed to regularly coordinate in NAIN Centre activities & projects.

  • OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEME

    OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEME
    1. The main objective of the scheme is to encourage students, research scholars and alumini to share their ideas to solve chosen problems which are local centric and to validate, refine and nurture the ideas.
    2. Incubation center shall provide an ecosystem to convert the ideas into proof of concept and upgrade them to a level of commercial value.
    3. After successful incubation, encourage and lead the teams towards setting up a business enterprise

  • OVERVIEW

    Idea Generation
    1. College/incubates shall identify Regional and Local Problems(unmet needs) that can be solved with ICT solutions.
    2. College may source ideas and solutions from Students , Research Scholars and Alumni through workshops, seminars.

    Proposal and approval
    1. Each team after the identification of the problem shall refine the ideas and convert them to Project Proposals along with costing and other details.
    2. Such project proposals are then placed before and reviewed by Steering Committee and funding will be sanctioned after the approval of the Screening Committee.

    Execution
    1. College will give training to the Project Team to execute the Proposals.
    2. Each team will be assigned a Mentor through Mentor network during the execution of the project and the Mentors shall guide the teams in carrying out their project as per the guidelines.
    3. The College/Mentor will review and monitor the progress of the project during the execution stage and submit the reports to Screening Committee.

    Governance IT/BT Steering Committee Central Coordinator(CC)
    1. It is proposed to have a Steering Committee comprising of representatives from the IT/BT Department, Academia, and Industry.
    2. College is having a Monitoring Committee and a Regional Coordinator that will select the Projects/entrepreneurs and monitor the progress.
    3. Regional Coordinator will monitor the project and furnish monthly reports to the Steering Committee.
    4. Screening Committee will meet every quarter and review the progress of each project.
    5. Each of the selected entrepreneur team will be given funds based on the Business Plan presented by them and will be allocated one or more of Mentors from the panel.

  • FUNDING FOR EACH PROJECT WILL BE AS BELOW

    1. Each Project/team will get a maximum funding of Rs. 3.00 lakhs and college will take up maximum of 10 projects in a year. Each project/idea selected by the college/incubate team shall have to be approved by the Steering Committee.
    2. Each incubation center will get a funding of Rs. 10 Lakhs per year to be used towards Operating expenditure for the maintenance.

  • OVERALL PROCESS FLOW

    Project Sourcing
    1. College will identify problems in their District either by Hackathons method or by inviting ideas.
    2. Ideas are then submitted by the Project teams.
    3. Solutions for the problems are then submitted by the Project team.

    Project Lifecycle
    1. Refinement: Ideas are refined and a formal proposal is made.
    2. Evaluation: Ideas are Evaluated and approved and funding is allocated.
    3. Execution
            1. Mentors are assigned
            2. Product Development/validation
            3. Prototype

    Mentors are assigned
    1. MC & RC to review on weekly monthly basis.
    2. SC to review on quarterly basis.


  • PROJECT SOURCING

    Project will be sourced locally using a three pronged approach with a special impetus on existing students, recent graduates and alumni; as well as local entrepreneurs hailing from within the district as below.
    1. The Colleges may run Hackathon style events to generate novel solutions for known problems.
    2. The novel solutions for a predetermined list of local problems shall be requested.
    3. Colleges/incubation teams shall create awareness about incubation and solicit applications from potential entrepreneurs.

    Project Lifecycle
    1. An incubated project will start from the idea stage where it will be refined until it is ready to be presented to the SC.
    2. Thereafter, it will pass through the evaluation stage before finally being selected and continuing through a year of incubation.
    3. The initial ideas/concept note submitted by the Project Teams will be refined via RC and MC.
    4. Upon refinement of the idea Project Team shall submit a detailed proposal for review by the Screening Committee.
    5. Disbursement of funds and details review mechanism setup with the RC based on Final plan Approved by the SC.
