Department of Physics was established in the year 1980 during the inception of the Institute. The department has a team of dedicated, well qualified and experienced faculty, who are actively engaged in teaching and research. Engineering Physics is a common subject for all branches of Engineering during the first year academics. Well equipped Physics Laboratory for students of I year BE and two separate research labs to carryout research activities are established in the department. The department is recognized as research Centre by VTU in the year 2016 and eight students are working in the field of Environmental Radioactivity, Radiation Physics and Nano technology.

PO - 1 Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
PO - 2 Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
PO - 3 Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Physics department has been recognized as research centre from VTU, in the year 2016  and two recognised Research supervisors are guiding the research students.  Two separate Research Labs  are working under the departement,  namely

  1. Environmental Radioactivity Measurements Lab established from the VGST Research grant .
  2. Nanomaterials Lab established from the NES Resarch grant

Currently 8 students are working for their Ph.D. degree programme,  of which three are working in the area of Environmental Radioactivity and Radiation Physics, and Five are working in the area of Nanotechnology.  Faculty members have published  41 research papers  in reputed journals and presented 64 papers in conferences and symposia.

  1. Organized Two days Science Academies Lecture workshop on “Emerging Trends in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology” during 7-8 Septempber 2018
  2. Department conducts Physics Experiments Demonstration to students of INSPIRE camp every year.
