Established in 1980, this department has a dynamic highly qualified & experienced faculty that is constantly engaged in R&D activities. Fully equipped labs with CAD/CAM/CAE and recent CNC training facilities and Condition Monitoring lab provide an environment where students can experience the vast expanse of Mechanical Engineering. The department has a number of research projects in the areas of stress analysis, vibration, composite materials sponsored by AICTE/VTU. This department also offers M.Tech Degrees in Design Engineering and Computer Integrated Manufacturing and has been recognized as a research center by VTU, leading to Doctoral and M.Sc.(Engg.) degrees.

The department is conducting workshops for faculty and students, and special training in CAD/CAM /CAE areas. The faculty has several papers published in national and international journal to their credit. Each year the department takes up assignments that focus on technical problems faced by industries. Students have won several awards for their projects and have been actively involved in the co-curricular & extra-curricular activities. The department is actively engaged in developing many innovative projects useful for the agricultural filed and industries. The Automatic Sugarcane Seed Scoping machine developed got wide recognition and awards.
